Ilhéus
is situated halfway the Brazilian
east coast in the state of Bahia at the
mouth of the Rio Cachoeira that ends up
in the Atlantic Ocean. A bridge connects
the north side (centre) with the south
side (pontal etc.). Salvador is 458 km to
the north while Porto Seguro is 315 km
to the south.

By road
Coming from the south (Eunapolis/Porto
Seguro), take the BR-101 up north to
Itabuna. From there on take the BR-415
eastwards to Ilheus, 33 km. Coming from
the north (Salvador) or north-east, go to
Itajuipe and after take the BR-101 to
Itabuna. Coming from the central-west
(Brasilia, Goias, Mato Grosso, Tocantins)
head for the BR-101, the rest is the same.
Coming from Minas Gerais, take the
BR-116 until Vitoria da Conquista, and
then go right on to the BR-415 to Itabuna.
By airplane
Ilheus has a national airport with flights throughout
the day, starting from 3.30 in
the morning until 18:15 at night.
TAM and GOL offer
direct flights to
Salvador, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.

Location
The airport is strategically well located at
the south side of Ilhéus in the Pontal
neighborhood, which is only a 5 minute ride from
the city centre and even closer to the south beaches
(Praia do Sul). The beaches
at the north (Praia do Norte) are reached
within 15 minutes by car.

The bus station in Ilhéus
is located 3,5 km west
of the city centre and is easily reached by city
bus. The “Teotonio Vilela” and "Salobrinho"
bus have the most frequent rides and stops right in
front of the main entrance. A bus ride from the
centre will only take about 10 minutes and only costs
R$ 1,70. Of course there are also plenty
of taxis and there is a (guarded) parking lot in
front.
There are seven bus companies represented at
the rodoviária that sell tickets to almost every
destination in Bahia and several big cities in the
rest of Brazil like Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo,
Belo
Horizonte, Brasilia, Coritiba and Foz de Iguaçu.
