Inaugurated in 1967 after 36 years of
construction work and with a height of
approximately 47 meters, the São Sebastião
cathedral is one of the main tourist
attractions of the city.

Teatro Municipal - theatre
Inaugurated in December 1932 the
Teatro Municipal of Ilhéus originally
was called “Cine-Teatro Ilhéos. The
construction was initiated in 1930 at
the Luiz Vianna square.

Old residence of the Amado family and place
where Jorge Amado began his writing career.
Reformed and transformed into Casa de Cul-

São Jorge church – museum of
sacred Art
Oldest church in the centre of Ilhéus inaugu-
rated in 1556. There is a museum where you
can see an age-old sculpture of São Jorge.

Palácio Paranaguá
Constructed in neoclassical style in 1907,
the palace nowadays serves as the city hall

Cloister and church
Nossa Senhora da Piedade
Completed in 1928 in neo-gothic style,
the Cloister has one of the best views of
the Ilhéus city centre as it was built on top
of a hill. There is also a little museum.
