Ilheus
is one of the oldest cities of Brazil.
Founded in 1534, the town can proudly
look back at almost 500 years of history
and culture.

average yearly temperature of 78°F.
Ilheus became famous for their cacao
production which, at the beginning of last
century, generated an extraordinary
wealth throughout the whole region.
Today the typical architecture of this
"belle époque" can still be contemplated.
Ilheus also became famous thanks to
Jorge Amado, Brazilians "Hemingway"
who wrote his best and worldwide
known books in Ilheus.
