| South Beaches of Ilhéus |
In general the beaches south of the Ilhéus city centre are spacious with fine bright sand and palm
trees. The presence of the many beach cabins makes these beaches an ideal place to spend a
day in the sun. Quality of the seafood is good and drinks are served ice-cold. The beaches get a
bit rockier after 6 km to the south while the waves also get bigger. Therefore beaches such as
Backdoor (14 km) are popular among surfers.
Getting there
Departing from the centre of Ilhéus by public transport to the beginning of the south beaches, hop
on one of the frequent “Hernani Sá”, “Nelson Costa”, “Ilhéus II” or “NS da Vitória” busses and get
out at the Opaba Praia Hotel. The “Acuipe” bus takes you to all the beaches listed on this page
while “Aguas de Olivença” takes you until the Praia Canabrava. “Olivença” and “Sapucaeira” take
you to the popular surf-beach “Backdoor” and the crowdie village beach “Batuba”. Expect to pay
around R$ 2,00 for the bus trip.
The bus from Cidade Sol that goes to the lovely town of Canavieiras also passes by all the
beaches listed here and costs also around R$ 2,00. |
