Although the nightlife
of Ilhéus is not know for its
wild parties and many discotheques, the city and
its region have some fine restaurants to offer and
some popular and historical bars that play live
music where you can easily spend a whole night
due to its unique atmosphere and colorful visitors.
In the centre of Ilhéus there are two bars that
de-
serve to be mentioned. Barrakitika is a relaxed spot
where tourists and locals meat each other while
listening to talented live-bands, Brazilian and/or
foreign music. The food that the restaurant
serves is also of good quality.
Bar Vesuvio became famous thanks to the world
famous writer Jorge Amado who used to write his
novels there and even used the Bar Vesuvio as
décor in one of his books. There is a statue placed
on the spot where he always used to sit. The bar
has a very tranquil feel about it with live music,
mostly bossa nova, and people who enjoy their

Barrakitika is one of the most popular bars in town
for both locals and tourists

Barrakitika
is located in the centre of town on the Praça
Antonio Muniz, a side street of the Rua Jorge Amado.
The bar is open from Monday to Saturday, 11:00 am
to
around 2:00 pm, depending on the crowd. On Sunday
the bar is closed.
Usually on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday evening
there are local bands that play on the outside terrace
in front of Barrakitika. The bar is devided in three
areas: the terrace in front, the bar itself with
tables
around it when you enter and there is a part at
the
back with a half open space also with tables and
chairs. The back also has a podium where once in
a
while bands play their tunes. Barrakitika is also
a good
spot to watch football matches from around the globe
like the Champions League, Spanish football and
of
course Brazilian matches. Game days are usually
on
Saturday and Wednesday.
The kitchen of Barrakitika is blessed with some
outstanding cooks that serve a variety of delicious
local dishes and Italian influenced plates. For
